What do my translators get from TermBoy?
The terminology is held server-based and integrated directly into the professional translation environment (SDL Trados Studio / MultiTerm). In the CAT tool, all terms contained in the term bank are highlighted in red in the source segment. On the right, a window appears with the translations of all recognised terms, and one click brings up all the information on a term. Quality Assurance checks the terms automatically and warns if a prescribed term has not been used.
The CAT system ensures that the terminology remains consistent even in extremely complex fields with tens of thousands of terms — even when a new translator takes over a project. In addition, the term bank can be consulted at any time via the TTN web pages.
How does TermBoy affect post-editing?
TTN offers two kinds of post-editing:
- Full post-editing: the text is translated automatically with Claude or ChatGPT and checked sentence by sentence against the source text by the translator.
- Light post-editing: only the target text is read through; the source text is consulted only when an obvious problem appears in the machine translation.
In both cases, quality benefits from TermBoy: during machine translation, the terms from your term bank are injected directly into the translation prompt. The AI model is instructed to use the expressions from the TermBoy database consistently — the terminology is thus already correct in the raw text, and post-editing becomes faster and cheaper.
How does TM-augmented translation work?
In TM-augmented translation, the fuzzy-match hits from the translation memory are included in the prompt. For an 80-percent match, the translation algorithm takes almost all the words from the TM and only inserts the new terms — which, when the system is well built, in many cases come from the TermBoy database.
If the translations are checked by a human translator, the translated segments go into the client’s normal TM. If translation runs fully automatically via TTN, the delivered segments are stored in a separate TM.
Why is this so important? AI models tend to generate terms and wording somewhat freely. Have the same text translated twice by an AI two weeks apart, and the results differ more or less markedly — terminology and wording diverge. Anyone with a catalogue online whose products depend on good discoverability soon has a Babel on their hands. TM-augmented translation ensures that the same wording is always used; it eases the translators’ work considerably and improves quality. And if you ever disagree with a translation, you simply change it in the translation memory — from then on the new version applies.
How does TermBoy affect machine translation with Claude or ChatGPT?
With a well-built TermBoy database, an AI model quickly recognises that your organisation is an important authority in its field. The interlinked definitions form a connection model whose effect surpasses that of classic SEO: AI models no longer orient themselves to individual terms but to the relations between terms and the connection weights.
An example: a two-wheeler trade association sets up a comprehensive database with all the specialist terms of its industry — the freewheel body, lateral runout or the headset are defined cleanly there. The headset (in German “Steuersatz”) shows precisely why this pays off: on a bicycle it is a bearing set in the frame; in tax law the same German word means the tax rate — it is exactly such ambiguities that a term bank resolves. If a bicycle dealer, a buyer or an insurer now wants a letter corrected or translated, the AI knows that the important terms are defined at the trade association, and calls them up during the translation or correction process.

You do. The terminology built for you remains your property and can be exported at any time, for example as a MultiTerm term bank or Excel file.
How does the term bank stay up to date?
Automatically: with every new translation project, TermBoy checks the texts for new terms and continuously expands the term bank. Your terminology thus grows along with your content — with no extra effort on your part.
